I don't believe B16 is going to let that attitude prevail again.Mike Lhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18100363229707213441noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14300599.post-1121620193081463552005-07-17T12:09:00.000-05:002005-07-17T12:09:00.000-05:00Bishop NT Wright, before whose book on the Resurre...Bishop NT Wright, before whose book on the Resurrection I stand in awe, perfectly illustrates my thesis.

http://www.cwnews.com/offtherecord/offtherecord.cfm?task=singledisplay&recnum=2851Mike Lhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18100363229707213441noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14300599.post-1121588805860468402005-07-17T03:26:00.000-05:002005-07-17T03:26:00.000-05:00As a priest in the Anglican Catholic Church, I cer...As a priest in the Anglican Catholic Church, I certainly agree that those threatening to leave the C of E now should have done so earlier. Obviously, I think they should have come to us :-), but, failing that, Rome or Orthodoxy were the obvious destinations.

However, it should be noted that these people (Forward in Faith) have never accepted women can be ordained priests, and have constantly sought, and in England largely received, sacramental ministrations from a kind of protected "sub-jurisdiction" with its own clergy, all of whom reject the innovation. So, they are not being inconsistent in that regard.

The problem is that they accept as certainly valid the ordinations of men ordained by bishops who accept and practice the innovation. There are reasons (though none are conclusive) to doubt the validity of any ordination performed by those who ordain women. (NB: I am bracketing and leaving to the side the separate questions about Anglican Orders in general here). The doubts are related to intention from a Western perspective and the connection between Apostolic Tradition and Apostolic Succession from an Eastern perspective. Thus, it may be fairly said that their sacramental theology is problematic, but not for the precise reasons assumed by our host.Fr Matthew Kirbyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14386951752314314095noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14300599.post-1121554899743658842005-07-16T18:01:00.000-05:002005-07-16T18:01:00.000-05:00I must use a nom-de-plume for reasons hinted at by...I must use a nom-de-plume for reasons hinted at by William Tighe. The current Abp of Westminster is one of those bishops who were distinctly discouraging of Anglican converts at the time of the decision by the Church of England to ordain women, and the opposition from the liberal wing of the Catholic Church in England has in no way diminished. In addition, some of those received then (there were over 400) are dismissive of the late change of mind by those now unwilling to accept women bishops, who must have known then what was coming 10-15 years down the line. Things will be much harder for them now, but there is one ray of sunshine, and that is the positive signals coming from the Apostolic Palace.Doasyouwouldbedonebyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08122993615086417283noreply@blogger.com
