I am blessed to be alive to have time to repent.
I am no Catholic leader nor theologian. I appreciate your spirit of ecumenism that allows me to comment on your blog. I am a guest on your blog and you are most charitable and hospitable.
I agree that common ground is most important and again I am amazed that we can try at that here.
May you be blessed
Olyexistentialisthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18121706260786532883noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14300599.post-1130304623661396962005-10-26T00:30:00.000-05:002005-10-26T00:30:00.000-05:00Oly:Well, I've presented my argument as to why I b...Oly:

Well, I've presented my argument as to why I believe the Latin tradition about celibacy should be upheld. I think it's a pretty good argument. I also note that, in Orthodoxy, only celibates may become bishops. The reasons for that are quite similar to those of the Catholic celibacy requirement for priests.

As for your remark about the Catholic Church "splitting off" from the East, let me point out that that's just the sort of insensitivity for which you took me to task on the question of doctrinal development. Today, most Catholic leaders and theologians would say that both sides were to blame for the schism: the West, for unilaterally inserting the filioque into the Creed, and the East for refusing to recognize papal authority. Better than the blame game, however, would be untiring efforts to re-establish common ground.

Best,
MikeMike Lhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18100363229707213441noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14300599.post-1130292944210761182005-10-25T21:15:00.000-05:002005-10-25T21:15:00.000-05:00hi mike, thanks for this post. my priest discussed...hi mike, thanks for this post. my priest discussed celibacy in the sermon this sunday. i should publish it on my blog. he was talking about we tithe to the church so we can support those who are celibate and detached from the world.
this particular subject gives me a heartache.
i think the catholic church is wrong personally, that is why i became orthodox which is foreign, instead of catholic, which is ancestral. i mean wrong about required celibacy for priests.
but thanks again for reporting on the synod. my mom has stood up and returned to the church as has her sister, so i want to stay in touch with the catholic church.
it was you who split off from the east, you know that right? over the filioque.
best wishes
olyexistentialisthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18121706260786532883noreply@blogger.com
