Amy Welborn on gay and not-so-gay seminarians

Even the New York Times is letting this very Catholic, accomplished author and doyenne of blogdom be heard on the ever-more controversial subject of admitting homosexuals to Catholic seminaries. Characteristically, her brief Op-Ed piece is impassioned yet wise, principled yet balanced. I welcome it all the more because, as a dedicated wife and mother, she doesn't elicit the charges of denial-based homophobia that orthodox Catholic men often face when saying the same things.

Amy just can't be Bulverized. Right on, sister!

  1. While I would very much like to read Ms. Welborn's Op-Ed piece, I'm afraid that I am unwilling to spend the three dollars and some odd cents to "purchase" the article from the Times.

I suppose that newspapers, professional journals, and multimedia people are cashing in to the Internet, and attempting to charge all that the market can bear.

Nonetheless, I think it both inequitable and imprudent for the Times to charge more for a simple 700 or so word editorial than it costs to buy the Sunday edition of the New York Times, just as I believe it is so for professional journals to charge as much for access to individual journal articles as it costs for a subscription for a year.

    Ah, well.
