One of America's greatest scholars of Christian history and thought died last Saturday, May 13, at 82. His five-volume
The Christian Tradition: A History of the Development of Doctrine provided the template for my study of that topic while in college and graduate school. And that series was only a small part of his opus. Directly or indirectly, he has affected countless souls, doubtless almost entirely for the good.
I am told that his humility matched his erudition. May his prayers as a member of the Church Triumphant aid us in our quest for Christian unity.
